Combatting Fast Fashion & Throw Away Clothing

How many of you reading this currently have a wardrobe full of clothes that might ‘one day’ be worn?

Whether they were bought new or second hand, eventually the majority of what is ‘thrown away’ or ‘given to charity’ will end up in landfill. Where it is then no longer able to be turned into anything of use.

In the UK alone it is estimated that around 350,000 tonnes of clothing a year will become waste product. (With a vast % sent abroad to become another countries problem)

We cannot continue with this ‘throw-away’ mindset of out of sight out of mind. We need to be aware of the resources first used to make our clothes and the impacts this is now having on our environment.

Before clearing your wardrobe to make space for new or 2nd hand clothes, I encourage you to first ask yourself;

‘How can this garment be repaired, reconstructed or repurposed?

Is it that it is too big? too small? too long? not long enough? the wrong colour? missing buttons? broken zip? or even that it is quite literally hanging by a thread!

Whatever the reason is that has cast these clothes to the depths of your wardrobe whilst they wait to be thrown out, please consider these small steps to creating a more ethical wardrobe.

The reality of our current situation is becoming increasingly alarming, we need to join together to focus on moving forward with actions that consider the future on this earth for everyone.
