A Wardrobe full of clothes but still nothing to wear?

Clothing has become more readily available than ever, triggering our consumer behaviors to change for the worse. By thinking of the garments we wear as short term tools rather than long term investments, we contribute to wasteful consumption patterns which are creating serious environmental and societal problems.

what happens to our clothes we no longer wear?

either they end up in charity shops or the tip, where eventually the vast majority will be in landfill

what you can do to help the situation?

instead of throwing out

The ability to buy new clothing has never before been so readily available and affordable. With the rise of Fast Fashion appearing first in the ..1970…a trend has been created for the overconsumption of cheap low quality garments.

starting from using non-biodegradable fabrics that are fully processed with chemicals

One in three young women, the biggest segment of consumers, consider garments worn once or twice to be old”

But what happens to the clothes that we no longer wear?

With next day delivery service to your doorstep you could have a new outfit replacing the last one that broke for less than £10, before it eventually breaks and then cannot worn anymore.

It appears that now it is more convenient and cheaper to simply buy another new outfit instead of

without having really considered where your old outfit will end up. Eventually there isn’t any space left in your wardrobe, a few bin bags full later and they will be taken to the nearest charity shop (hopefully) or the dump :(

would most likely have take this to be mended for a small fee (which isn’t too bad considering you only spent £10) this would have not only benefited you by being able to wear it again but at the same time supported the worker fixing your garment.

where we buy these clothes is in our power as the consumer to make conscious choices.

it is within all of us to have the ability to choose where these come from and how we look after them.
